I'm so happy to share the wonderful news that Winston's CT scan came back completely clear! 7 years old and no luxating patella (what the vet thought it might be), no signs of arthritis, no bulging discs, no nothing!
After a protracted and painful wait for the results (I wrote about that here), my husband and I are so happy he has a completely clean bill of health.
The vet thinks it must've been a bad muscle sprain, which fortunately healed all by itself.
Thank you so much again for all your lovely messages and emails. They meant so much to us <3
To celebrate, we went for a BIG walk around Battersea Park over the weekend and toasted his excellent health with some fizz. Heaven! ๐

A calming strategy for stressed-out dogs who hate cars ๐
I'm really lucky that Winston is pretty chilled when it comes to travelling in the car. However, this isn't the case for all dogs.
If yours finds the experience stressful, you might find the tips inside this article useful. Romanian rescue Evelyn has relaxed massively with the help of calming wipes, a natural supplement, and a playlist featuring The Velvet Underground! ๐ถ

The benefits of bone marrow ๐ฆด
This weekend, I'm treating Winston to some bone marrow (lucky boy!).
Raw, frozen beef marrow bones are an excellent, nutrient-dense treat that provide great mental stimulation, a bit of a teeth clean, and immune system support.
They're also rich in calcium, phosphorus, collagen, and omega fatty acids.
Always feed raw to prevent splintering, supervise chewing, and offer in moderation (about 20 minutes at a time) to avoid fat-related issues like pancreatitis.
Does your Corgi get given beef marrow bones very often?

We recommend...
If you're losing the battle against Corgi hair (who isn't? ๐) โ the Maxpower Planet double-sided deshedding and dematting rake is worth a look. One side handles tangles and matting; the other targets the dense undercoat that's responsible for most of the hair ending up on your sofa... and in your trousers.

Rescue centre focus...
Today we're spotlighting US-based Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, which provides a rescue program for purebred Pembrokes across all of the New England states, plus New York and Connecticut. They don't post all of their available Corgis on their website, so if you're interested in rehoming in the future, it's imperative to fill out their application form first.
|
In case you missed it...
Hip dysplasia is one of those conditions Corgi owners hear about constantly but often don't fully understand until it's relevant. This breaks down what it actually is, what to watch for, and what you can do to reduce the risk.
