Corgi Companion

πŸ€– That "dog expert" is not real

I can't thank you enough for the lovely messages of support I received from so many of you about our scary incident with Winston a couple of weeks ago <3

In case you missed it, I wrote about that here.

I don't have an update just yet (we're booked in to have his scan tomorrow morning), but as soon as I know more I'll share it with you.

In the meantime, at the start of the year I was interviewed by the lovely Candie, Catherine, and Chuckles (the Corgi) from Corgi Town USA.

If you have a spare 40 minutes and fancy listening to our interview (all about how I rescued Winston and why building this newsletter is so important to me), you can do that here (starts about 2 mins in) or catch the episode on YouTube.

Snoot boops and bunny hops,

Winston & Bella x

Watch out for these scammy AI videos posing as "health advice" 🚫

Nothing makes my blood boil more than Instagram/TikTok accounts set up under the guise of dog health education that are really just trying to sell you something you don't need.

You may have seen them. A calm, authoritative-looking figure β€” sometimes dressed as a vet or behaviourist β€” sharing health tips. Except they're not real people.

They're AI-generated characters following the same script: share a tip, encourage you to comment, then slide into your DMs with a product recommendation. Usually collagen, the efficacy of which is highly questionable.

The easiest way to spot them? Check the bio. You'll see the same template: promotional copy and a link to an Amazon storefront. "What I feed my dogs every day" / "The collagen product I use" β€” with a shoppable link underneath.

Have you seen any of these accounts?

Is your dog actually addicted to their toys? 🧸

In 2025, researchers from the University of Bern tested 105 highly play-motivated dogs and found that roughly a third of them showed behaviours that closely mirror human behavioural addictions β€” things like craving, lack of self-control, and inability to settle even after the toy was removed.

Two dogs in the study destroyed the box their toy was hidden in trying to get to it.

If your dog can't eat, rest, or interact with you when a favourite toy is around, it might be worth varying the type of play you offer. The lead researchers suggest focusing on cooperative games like tug or search activities rather than repetitive ball throwing, which can reinforce that single-minded fixation.

Sound familiar? 🀭

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT:

We recommend...

With four spinning layers and 12 treat compartments, Nina Ottosson's interactive 'Tornado' is a fun challenge for your dog. You can add bone-shaped blockers to make it trickier as they get the hang of it. Corgis, being the clever food-motivated little creatures they are, tend to take to it very quickly β€” which means you'll probably want to have a level 3 puzzle waiting in the wings πŸ˜†

RESCUE DOGS AVAILABLE:

This week...

We're shining a light on The Big 3 Rescue, an incredible organisation that goes to extraordinary lengths for dogs in need β€” including Corgis. The rescue works across the US and UK, bringing dogs over from South Korea and China and placing them in loving foster and forever homes. Keep an eye on their Instagram account as that's where they share new dogs available to adopt.

🦊 IVDD in Corgis: The Owner’s Guide to Symptoms, Treatment & Recovery

I interviewed Professor Paul Freeman, Principal Veterinary Neurologist at Queens Veterinary School Hospital, University of Cambridge and Aurelie, owner of Marcel the Corgi who has IVDD, for this comprehensive guide about Intervertebral Disc Disease. The piece is very helpful (and very comforting). Read the full guide.

Corgi of the day

This beautiful girl is Camilla, sent in by Maggie. Unfortunately, she has now crossed the rainbow bridge, but she loved to nap on Maggie's glass-topped coffee table. What a beauty 🀍
