It's almost a long Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK and Winston, my husband and I are so ready for it! βοΈ
On Saturday, Winston and I are traveling down to West Sussex to stay with Winston's grandparents (my parents) and their two lovely doggies (Fred the Irish Terrier and Stan the Pug).
Then, on Monday morning, I'm dropping Winston to stay with a lovely Italian lady called Tiziana (who Winston adores) for a few days while we go to Spain for a friend's wedding. We found Tiziana through the app, Rover, which we love. In a busy city like London there are lots of people on there and you can filter by price, reviews, location, whether they only take on one dog at a time (a non negotiable for Mr. Unsociable-with-other-dogs!), etc.
On a separate note, a reader asked me recently whether Winston has any brothers or sisters. Longtime Corgi Companion-ers might remember me talking about his brother, Duke π
For anyone new, Winston and Duke were rehomed separately in December and January 2019/2020. A few months later, a total stranger spotted me sharing Winston on my relatively big Instagram account (all about beautiful front doors) and messaged me to ask if Winston had a brother called Duke because if so, she knew his owners. She put us in touch with them and later that summer Winston and Duke were reunited!
It's the sweetest story and we're actually planning to meet up again soon...
We'll keep you posted!

Have you seen Best in Show? π₯
One of the joyful films I've watched recently is the wonderful 2000 mockumentary "Best in Show" directed by Christopher Guest. The film follows a highly eccentric group of dog owners as they travel to and compete in the prestigious Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show.
It's co-written by Guest and Eugene Levy, who stars in the movie alongside Catherine O'Hara (RIP) and some other familiar faces including Parker Posey and Jennifer Coolidge.
The film is largely improvised and features so many recognizable dog owners (and maybe some of our own recognizable neuroses... π).
I loved it! Though of course I was disappointed not to see any corgis feature.
If you've seen it, what did you think?

The science behind why we love our dogs π§¬
|
|
Studies show that interacting with a dog raises oxytocin, the hormone associated with happiness and calm <3.
Stroking a dog for even just a few minutes has been shown to lower heart rate, cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and blood pressure. And this is during the interaction itself! The body immediately feels the benefits.
Dogs, as we know, are also brilliant at getting us outside and into the fresh air.
They force us into routines which, for many of us, are essential to our sanity.
They're genuinely so good for us - emotionally and physically.
But you knew that already, right? π€

We recommend...
We've been using these washable toothbrush fingers alongside Winston's usual toothbrush for a couple of months now. I find them very helpful in getting to the back of Winston's mouth / to those back teeth that are usually quite tricky to clean with a toothbrush. Check them out here if you're interested!β

Clover
For readers based in North or South Carolina or Georgia, beautiful 2-year-old Clover is an American Corgi (Pembroke/Cardigan mix) available for adoption. She is a loveable girl (who hardly makes a sound... rare for a corgi!) looking for a patient, experienced adopter who is familiar with the herding breed personality. She needs an owner committed to structured socialization and basic training, who can provide a calm, stable environment. You can apply to rehome Clover using the form here.β
